  • The Saints have had a few passengers tonight.

Ben Long has had just five disposals and no tackles. Dan Butler similarly has seven touches and just the one tackle. Paul Hunter has dominated the hitouts with 19, but has had just three disposals.

The Saints also need more out of Tim Membrey, who has eight touches and three marks to his name.

In case you’ve missed it, Harry McKay has five tonight. His one set shot miss was arguably his easiest, 30 metres out straight in front, although he much prefers to snap from 30 metres rather than the drop punt straight in front.

Sam Walsh has three, as does Max King at the other end of the ground. Charlie Curnow has a goal on his return to the side.

Sam Walsh has his third, one in each term for the Brownlow roughie.

He’s had a stellar season and he had never kicked three goals in a game until tonight.

The Blues have just won another big turnover in the centre of the ground and the entry inside forward 50 has put the Saints under pressure, with a free kick awarded to Harry McKay...

...and he misses the set shot straight in front.

    Saints 6.3 (39), Blues 14.2 (86)

The medical sub, Cooper Sharman, has also just kicked his first goal in league footy.

It was an important goal for the Saints after the Blues slotted the first three of this third term.

The Saints won a crucial turnover in their forward half and Brad Crouch was composed enough to find Sharman with a short kick on the lead.

The second gamer kicked a lovely set shot goal on an angle.

    Saints 6.3 (39), Blues 13.1 (79)

Carlton young gun Josh Honey has kicked his first career goal, and the Blues now lead by 46 points!

The chain started from a holding free-kick to Patrick Cripps against Jack Steele at the centre bounce. Honey then won a free kick inside-50 for an over the shoulder.

It’s looking very dangerous here for the Saints.

    Saints 5.3 (33)

    Blues 13.1 (79)

This is turning into a big night for Harry McKay, who again marked and then chose the set-shot snap to convert his fifth.

The Blues have kicked an accurate 11.1. Commentator Wayne Carey said the difference tonight has been Carlton’s ball use, but when the Saints don’t put pressure on their opponents, it makes their entries a lot more clean.

Meanwhile, Dougal Howard is out of the game due to a hamstring injury. Cooper Sharman is into the game.

Earlier. Tom De Koning was subbed out, with Marc Murphy coming into the team.

And Paddy Dow has just kicked the Blues’ second this term.

    Saints 5.3 (33)

    Blues 12.1 (73)

With the game back underway in the second half, I’ll be looking for a lift in pressure from the Saints.

With just 30 tackles in the first half, hopefully we see close to that many in the third term alone. If finals was the smallest of chances, they must win this game tonight.

What a great moment - David Teague celebrating Charlie Curnow’s first goal upon return to the side.

    Team stats (Saints-Blues): Disposals 196-183, inside-50s 23-25, free kicks 14-7, hitouts 39-7, clearances 22-21, contested possessions 87-70, marks 35-37, marks inside-50 6-7, contested marks 2-5, tackles 30-52.

Leading possessions: Luke Dunstan (19), Jack Silvagni (17), Zak Jones (16), Jack Steele (15), Paddy Dow (14), Sam Walsh (14)

Goals: Harry McKay (4), Max King (3), Sam Walsh (2)

The worrying stat at half time is the tackle count. Carlton’s pressure has been great, while the Saints need to show more. Steele has nine tackles, meaning the other 21 Saints have had just one tackle each on average. Brad Crouch has had 12 touches but is going at just 50 per cent.

A costly fumble from Callum Wilkie on the wing has allowed Tom Williamson to goal after the half-time siren.

Charlie Curnow collected the ball on the wing and bombed long inside-50 with 30 seconds left on the clock and Zac Fisher ran onto the loose ball, before finding Williamson on his own.

The Blues have kicked 10.1 in this first half!

    St Kilda Saints 3.1, 5.3 (33)

    Carlton Blues 5.1, 10.1 (61)
