Bolton Wanderers predicted line-up for Barnsley Carabao Cup clash

Wanderers return to the UniBol to face Championship side Barnsley in the opening round of the Carabao Cup.

Ian Evatt’s men enter the game on the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw against MK Dons, with Alex Baptiste scoring a dramatic late equaliser.

The Whites will be looking to make it past the first round for the first time since the 2017/18 campaign when they ran out 2-1 winners at Crewe Alexandra.

Ian Evatt says he will not be making “wholesale changes” from the team that drew with MK Dons over the weekend, but the Bolton boss revealed defender Ricardo Santos and midfielder Kieran Lee will come into the side.

Summer signing Will Aimson misses out with a groin injury and Declan John will also sit out after picking up a minor knock against MK Dons.

The visitors are also poised to make changes and the likes of Obbi Oulare, Aaron Iseka, Devante Cole and Herbie Kane could feature.

Barnsley finished fifth in the Championship last season, narrowly missing out on a trip to Wembley in the playoffs.

Former TSV Hartberg boss Markus Schopp took charge at Oakwell this summer following Valerian Ismael’s move to West Brom.

The Tykes kicked off the new season with a 1-1 draw at Cardiff City thanks to Toby Sibbick’s second-half goal.

Gary Gardner fired the hosts in front, but Wanderers hit back through Adam Le Fondre’s penalty and Craig Noone’s volley.

Oli McBurnie headed home in injury time to deny the Whites a massive three points in the Championship relegation battle.
