Kuwait Airport capacity upped to facilitate return of citizens who are completely vaccinated

The price of return tickets to Kuwait are incredibly high, not only because it’s the high season, but mainly due to the limited seat quota set for most airlines, not including local carriers. Passengers are facing a tough situation after many had their tickets canceled although the flight was not, despite their tickets being confirmed months ago.

The ministerial committee for coronavirus emergencies is in charge of increasing the maximum number of passengers arriving at Kuwait airport. On Aug 4, the committee met and decided to increase the number or arriving passengers from 5,000 to 7,500 daily, starting from Aug 8, 2021.

Travel agencies confirmed the quota was increased for most airlines. The quota will also take into account the share of seats for Dubai and Turkey for national and foreign airlines to facilitate the return of citizens stranded abroad. The sources said the KAC has requested an additional trip to London and has started operating flights to Amsterdam and Frankfurt.

On the other hand, the sources said the Cabinet has not decided at its last meeting the issue of operating direct flights to and from Egypt, and the same can be said of charter flights unless an official decision is issued in this regard. The sources said that the DGCA refused to operate charter flights to Iran during the current period after operating a number of flights during Eid al-Adha holidays.

Authorities also reopened Kuwait International Airport to expats from the beginning of August after a six-month closure, but imposed strict conditions on arrivals. Expats who hold legal residence in the country and wish to return must have been vaccinated with two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna or Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson jab.
