WARMINGTON Two seriously injured in Brampton house fire
At first glance, this house fire in Brampton may have looked like a minor blaze.
Article contentIt was anything but.
First responders pulled nine people out of the morning fire at a home on Longevity Rd. in the Mississauga Rd.-Williams Pkwy. area.
âItâs devastating,â said Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown.
Peel Regional Police reported three of those who escaped the blaze were rushed to hospital, including a woman in life-threatening condition and another person in serious condition. Police say the fire seems to have been concentrated in one of two apartments in the basement.
Toronto Sun photographer Ernest Doroszuk noted that standing outside the home, one would not be able to tell there had been a major blaze. But, he added, the inside told a different story.
Sources said it is believed a couch caught on fire, but the cause remains unknown at this point.
Article contentBrown said the community is shaken, but noted that Brampton firefighters prevented this from being even worse.
We apologize, but this video has failed to load.
âThey are known to be the best firefighters in Canada, and they showed it today,â said Brown. âThis was a very busy day for them because there were several major calls, including other fires. But this one was horrific.â
It was such a troubling call that Fire Chief Bill Boyes even responded to help his team.
âIt is a very serious fire,â Boyes told CP24.
He added âcrews did make a quick entry and were able to suppress the fire very quicklyâ and âthere was some smoke extension throughout the house.â
The big question is how did it start?
Police said the fire marshal is investigating.
We do know there were some serious life-saving efforts conducted by Brampton Fire and paramedics on the scene.
Many people were rescued, but now there are prayers for the two most seriously hurt.
Brown said the community is pulling for the injured to pull through while commending the emergency first responders for âputting themselves at risk to make sure they got people out.â
