Best NFL DFS Stacks Week 5 Lineup picks for DraftKings FanDuel tournaments daily fantasy football cash games
Stacking has always been a key NFL DFS strategy in both cash games and tournaments. As good as last week was for those who decided to invest heavily in a few stacks (Patrick Mahomes-Tyreek Hill, Daniel Jones-Saquon Barkley, Ezekiel Elliott-Cowboys D/ST), Week 5 could be even better. There will be plenty of opportunities for daily fantasy football players to start teammates and take shots at double points on both DraftKings and FanDuel.
As usual, DraftKingsâ prices are a bit more variable. That makes it easier to create three-player stacks or high-end two-player stacks. That said, FanDuel still offers some solid options, and savvy DFS players can take advantage of pricing inefficiencies on each site.
MORE WEEK 5 DFS: Best values | Lineup Builder
This week, there arenât as many good running back/defense stacks as usual. Itâs looking like a pass-heavy game slate, so most of our recommended stacks will involve quarterbacks and their pass-catching weapons (WR or TE). That said, there are a few nice QB-RB contrarian stacks (and even the ultra-rare RB-TE stack) that could pay off, especially in DraftKingsâ full-point PPR scoring system.
Below are some of our favorite sets of teammates for DraftKings and FanDuel lineups this week. Be sure to follow our Twitter account @SN_Fantasy to see all of our DFS content heading into kickoff every week.
WEEK 5 DFS LINEUPS: FanDuel | DraftKings | Yahoo
Week 5 NFL DFS Picks: Top cash game stacks for DraftKings, FanDuelQB Kyler Murray, WR Christian Kirk, & WR Rondale Moore, Cardinals vs. 49ers (DK/FD stack)
You can trust Murray in any matchup at this point. He is the highest-priced quarterback on the slate, and with good reason. He is averaging 318.3 passing yards, 27.3 rushing yards and three total TDs per game so far this season. He looks like one of the leagueâs top MVP candidates playing for the undefeated Cardinals.
The nice thing about Murray is that he doesnât target just one receiver to make a chalky stack. He has spread the ball around to DeAndre Hopkins, A.J. Green, Kirk, and Moore (and Maxx Williamsâ¦and Chase Edmondsâ¦). For this contest, weâll take a chance on pairing Murray with Kirk and Moore while assuming others will flock more to the bigger-name receivers.
The 49ers are dealing with quite a few injuries at cornerback and predictably struggled with some of their top players out. Russell Wilson didnât put up huge numbers against them, but he did total three TDs, including two through the air. Murray could easily do the same, and if he finds either speedster for a big gain, that will help give this lineup a high floor.
If the Cardinals can manhandle the Rams defense, they should be able to do the same against the 49ers. They are the top team to trust in cash game stacks until they prove otherwise.
WEEK 5 PPR RANKINGS:
Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker
QB Trevor Lawrence, WR Marvin Jones Jr., & WR Laviska Shenault Jr., Jaguars vs. Titans (DK/FD stack)
In Zach Wilsonâs first three NFL starts, he averaged 209.3 passing yards, 0.7 touchdowns and 2.3 interceptions. Against the Titans in Week 4, he threw for 297 yards, two touchdowns and just one interception.
What does this mean? The Titans have one of the worst defenses in the NFL. As such, itâs no surprise that they are allowing the 12th-most DraftKings points to QBs this year and the 11th-most FanDuel points to the position, as well. That number couldâve been worse if they hadnât had the luxury of playing a hobbled Carson Wentz.
Lawrence can be trusted as a solid, low-budget quarterback considering how weak the Titans have been. The Jaguarsâ defense isnât much stronger, so this has all the makings of a potential shootout. That means Lawrence will have to throw a lot, so he could rack up a lot of passing yards and TDs.
The Jaguars will likely rely on Marvin Jones and Laviska Shenault to carry their offense with DJ Chark likely out for the season. Pairing them with Lawrence creates a high-floor stack with a potential boom opportunity. Both Jones and Shenault see a lot of targets â" Jones gets 7.8 per game and Shenault gets 6.8 â" so they are ideal plays in cash games against a weak defense.
QB Ryan Tannehil & RB Derrick Henry, Titans at Jaguars (DK/FD Stack)
Yes, we like both the Titans and Jaguars offenses this week. This contrarian stack could play out well for DFS players, especially considering the uncertain status of both A.J. Brown (hamstring) and Julio Jones (knee).
The Titans should be able to move the ball easily. The Jags have allowed the third-most total yards (418.5 per game) and the sixth-most points per game (28.8). Even without their top two receivers, the Titans have a great running game and a solid quarterback that they can trust.
Usually, you want to go with traditional stacks in cash games, but this is a rare instance where going QB/RB should work. Tannehill will give your lineup most of Tennesseeâs passing stats in this one. Henry should pick up most of the rushing stats. Will Henry catch a TD from Tannehill? Probably not, but never say never. If that happens, it would be gravy for the lineup. If not, youâll still have a chance to get four or so combined TDs from the duo. And, at the very least, Henry is catching the ball more this year.
Pairing Tannehill and Henry with the two Jacksonville receivers above, Jones and Shenault, could also be an interesting game stack. The Titans-Jaguars game looks like a good one to target either way.
WEEK 5 STANDARD RANKINGS:
Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker
QB Jacoby Brissett, WR DeVante Parker, & TE Mike Gesicki, Dolphins at Buccaneers (DK/FD stack)
The Dolphins havenât exactly been a fantasy goldmine thus far in 2021, but they have the pieces needed to take advantage of some of the NFLâs weaker secondaries. The Bucs qualify as one of those.
Tampa Bayâs secondary has struggled immensely this season. They are dealing with several injuries, as starters Sean Murphy-Bunting, Jamel Dean and Carlton Davis have all suffered injuries in recent weeks. They added Richard Sherman for veteran experience, but they still have holes that can be exploited.
So far, the Buccaneers have allowed a league-high 327.5 passing yards/game this year, joining the Cowboys and Jaguars as the only three teams league-wide giving up 300-plus passing yards/game.
The Dolphins havenât been a great passing team this year â" they have the third-fewest passing yards/game â" but Brissett logged 199 yards and multiple TDs last week after recording 37 rushing yards and a TD the prior week. He is one of the lowest-priced starters on the slate, so weâre getting good value with him at $5,200 on DraftKings and $6,300 on FanDuel.
Brissett has targeted Parker 16 times in his two starts, and Gesicki has seen 18 targets. They each have high floors and TD potential because of their size. Few in tournaments will want to roll with Dolphins, so this is a nice, cheap stacking opportunity that could earn us some key lineup differentiation.
QB Jameis Winston, RB Alvin Kamara, WR Deonte Harris, Saints at Washington (DK/FD stack)
Washington continues to be one of the most disappointing defenses in the NFL. They just allowed Matt Ryan to throw for 283 yards and four touchdowns. They figure to have similar issues against New Orleans.
Winston has not been a productive fantasy player since logging five touchdowns in the season opener against the Packers, but this is a favorable matchup for him. Washington allows 299 passing yards per game and has struggled to defend against pass-catching backs in particular.
Last week, Cordarrelle Patterson had five catches for 82 yards and three touchdowns. Kamara may not produce at that rate, but he should still do well. He wasnât targeted against the Giants, so after that loss, Sean Payton may try to get the ball in space to him more often. That makes him a great value in DraftKings PPR formats.
Meanwhile, Harris is leading the Saints in targets (15) and receptions (11) and averaging 13.8 yards per touch. Marquez Callaway may be the bigger name, but Harris is slightly cheaper and just as productive. He could break a long TD at a momentâs notice, so going with him as a cheap upside play makes sense.
RB Leonard Fournette and TE Cameron Brate, Buccaneers vs. Dolphins (DK Stack)
Week 5 seems like a good time to roll with Fournette. He is starting to round into form and just racked up 138 scrimmage yards against the Patriots. Now, he gets to face the Dolphins, who are allowing the sixth-most rushing yards/game this season (136.8).
The Bucs have a significant advantage up front and should continue to trust Fournette. He played 82 percent of the snaps against the Patriots, a season high, and shouldnât see Ronald Jones vulture too many scores from him. Fournette has seven red-zone carries compared to Jonesâ three.
The game-script Sunday should be positive for Fournette. The Dolphins have a great secondary but a weak front seven, so itâs best to beat them against the run. The Bucs will probably go with a more run-heavy plan than usual, especially if they can get up on the Dolphins early.
However, it will also behoove us to have one of Tampa Bayâs pass-catching weapons available. How about Brate? He has seen 11 targets over his past two games with Rob Gronkowski missing time due to a rib injury. The Dolphins are allowing 15.4 DK points per game and 12.8 FanDuel points per game to the position this season.
As such, Brate could be a nice, cheap option with TD upside if Gronk is out. Feel free to roll with these two together, as this pair will earn some serious lineup differentiation.
